Up until the late 90’s on our farm in Northern NSW we used conventional mechanical farming methods like ploughing to eradicate weeds and I will never forget the rich smell of the freshly turned earth after stepping out of the tractor.

As years passed we turned to a modern farming practice to preserve the soil moisture and minimise erosion. This practice is to use chemicals like glyphosate for weed control and after only a few years of this method we noticed the microbial activity had all but disappeared. There was no rich smell and the organic matter remaining after a harvest was taking years to breakdown. This always had me thinking, “there has to be a better way”

We have since sold our farm and are now a proud Newcastle family with two young children.
